234.5 lbs 30% body fat

Written by Bill on February 28th, 2010

Discipline has been difficult to maintain for the past two weeks as outside events have stolen my focus.

In good news, I have not gone back to my bad eating habits. No ice cream (much less a container for myself thank you), but I’ve just not maintained portion control and have worked out less than I prefer.

So while I celebrate losing another couple of pounds I know it could have been more.

Oh, I configured my scale to measure body fat. Not very accurate but it’s another yardstick. The dang thing says I am 30% fat. Zowie! Imagine 70 pounds of fat.

At my goal of 190 I will have set down nearly 60 pounds of fat and walked away. Hell, danced away!

This week I get back into the gym in a big way.

First fast

A Quick Fast [_]

Written by Bill on February 6th, 2010

I have found that fasting is a great way for me to kickoff a program because it helps one focus. Going without food for 24 or 36 hours tells the brain that it can be done.

Doing anything significant is nine parts discipline, and fasting helps me build that. I fast once a month or two for this reason.

The next time you are looking at that package of Chocolate HoHos you know that you can walk on by because you’ve made it a whole day without eating anything!

Check off the box if you’ve fasted a day to help create some discipline (or just clean out the plumbing).

[NOTE: Fasting can upset one's body chemistry. Do not try this without your Doctor's permission]

Soft Drinks [_] [_] [_]

mmm, high fructose corn syrup, color, sugar, phosphoric acid, caffeine and water!

Soft drinks, pop, soda, soda-pop, coke, cola. There are many euphemisms for what is really just carbonated water with artificial flavors and corn syrup or an artificial sweetener.

With no nutritional value, a soft drink is entertainment food. Loaded with high fructose corn syrup and caffeine, the average small 12 oz. soft drink has 146 calories, 36 g. simple carbohydrates (sugars), 14m sodium* and about 52mg caffeine**.

If you ”SuperSize” your drink, you have to multiply those values by five or six.

Ingredients
carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, color, sugar, phosphoric acid, cafeine, citric acid, flavor*** What in that list is good for a body? Just the water.

The only reason to drink soft drinks is if you are a shareholder in the company. And then it’s best to just buy them and give them to neighborhood children that you don’t like.

Weaning Yourself Off

1. Switch to diet soft drinks for a month [mark one box]

This will reduce the calories to zero and your tastes will change so that after a few weeks you will no longer like the taste of sugared pops.

2. Next (or if you just can’t stand the taste of diet) alternate your pop with water or tea. [mark a second box]

3. Switch to water or tea. [mark three boxes]

245 lbs

Written by Bill on February 6th, 2010

Down 2.5 lbs.

Today I’ll fast and stay active day cleaning the house and doing chores. My fast is tea w/soymilk, lots of water and I juiced about 4 or 5 pm. The juice will keep up my energy level late in the day.

The juice contained a large handful of spinach leaves, 4 ounces of blueberries, a large dollop of yogurt, two skinned carrots and two tangerines. The spinach and blueberries cranked up the antioxidants and the carrots added a lot of fiber.

The resulting mix was pretty thick and mildly sweet. Next time I’ll throw in some water and perhaps some cinnamon.
